Heat sealing in flexible packaging involves the fusion of one film to another. An example of the former is the creation of a pouch or bag where the film is sealed to itself. Sealing helps keep the product in the package safe until the consumer or user opens it and protect the product from the outside environment. For the packaging of food, the seal helps ensure product freshness. Hence, using a proficient lab heat sealer is an important part of packaging labs.

Heat seal tests are often conducted in the lab under controlled conditions to compare material and film structures. ASTM methods which describe heat seal is ASTM F 2029. This test facilitates the determination of laboratory heat sealability of flexible barrier materials. To conduct such testing methods the heat sealer machine are used to first seal the specimen in controlled conditions and then the specimen can be tested for seal strength by other test procedure. Also in general, it is necessary to have a strong heat seal layer that provides adequate seal strength for the application.

The Lab Heat Sealer is extensively used in plastic and packaging labs to seal the packaging products like plastic, thermoplastic materials using heat. Heat sealing is a technique of sealing a thermoplastic material with any other material using heat and pressure together.
